THE CROW MOVIE POSTER IMDB |
Resurrecting attention and paying tribute to the late Brandon Lee, the original star of the classic noir horror "The Crow," haunting first-look photos of Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs in the planned remake were revealed on Wednesday. In an interview with Vanity Fair on Wednesday, Rupert Sanders, the director of this year's "The Crow remake," stated that Brandon "was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow." "I hope he's pleased with our efforts and the way we've revived the tale."
The resentful Eric Draven was first portrayed by Lee, the son of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, in the Alex Proyas-directed supernatural thriller "The Crow," which was based on the James O'Barr comic book series. On the set of the movie, in March 1993, a stuck fake gun fatally shot 28-year-old Lee. With a punk haircut and thoughtfully placed tattoos all over his body, Skarsgård's take on Draven is evident in the first-look images that were made public on Wednesday. His distinctive black cosmetics evoke a sinister memory of Lee's Draven. The images also include singer FKA Twigs as Shelly, Draven's romantic interest.
The 1994 movie has gained cult status, but Sanders' "The Crow remake" is a contemporary retelling that departs from O'Barr's original work. The director of "Snow White and the Huntsman," despite the disagreements, stated to Vanity Fair that his interpretation nonetheless pays homage to Lee. Regarding the star's sudden passing, Sanders stated, "Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy," but he also added, "it's definitely something that we've always had in mind through the making of the film." Sanders described Lee's original portrayal of Draven as having "fragility and beauty," and he believes Skarsgård, who is most known for his terrifying portrayal of Pennywise the Clown in the "It" remakes, is the next best thing.
In Sanders' "The Crow remake," Skarsgård and Shelly, who are engaged to be married, are viciously killed when Shelly's troubled history finds them.According to an official synopsis, Eric decides to exact brutal retribution on those who killed his true love by crossing over into the realms of the living and the dead to make amends.
"The Crow Remake: A Dark, Gothic Fantasy of Revenge and Redemption"
Son of Bruce Lee, rising action star Brandon Lee, was shot in the stomach on the set of this Gothamesque vengeance fantasy movie, and died from the prop gun mishap little over 30 years ago. Although Bruce passed away at the age of 32, the occurrence was extremely tragic and led to more rumors about a family "curse" than it did to discuss the issue of movie theater safety, which persists to this day.
This gritty tale of the living dead is brilliantly animated by director Alex Proyas, who draws inspiration from films such as Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop, James Cameron's The Terminator, and Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, which features a relentless downpour. Rain is reportedly mentioned in a song by Eric's band on their CD, where they sadly declare that it cannot endure forever—and it appears that it will. An early example of the Wachowski brothers' low-fidelity film style is The Crow.
The peculiar issue is that, despite the flashback pieces showing us nothing of his past life, Eric does not strike us as an ordinary good person who has been radicalized into revenge fury by the horror of his and his girlfriend's deaths. His fierce, death-metal-esque makeup, accessories, and overall demeanor nearly give the impression that he is one of the four killers right away. The overarching aura of cartoonish punishment and doom therefore has considerably greater significance than the everyday business of motivating. It's a strong dose of anarchic gothic fantasy.
